Interesting scope
Today, out of curiosity, I read my horoscope. It seems ironic and eye-catching. It said, " you made a big change in your life not long ago and it was a change for the better. You may still be struggling with it, though - even though it is a positive step in the right direction. Your old way was comfortable because you were used to it, even though it was not good for you. Take heart in knowing that you are doing something that is positive, and that as time goes on things will get better because you were strong enough to try a new and better way."

A Milestone
Yesterday, I received my official letter of retirement from the bishop. It become another milestone in my priesthood.
On June 14, 2012, I celebrated 40 years as a priest serving in Mississippi. Looking back on 40 years, seems like a momentary pause. Yet, when one looks ahead to 40 years to come, it seems like an infinity.
Now that I have received the official letter, this blog will take on a new tone. It will become a blog filled witn transitional moments; ponderings where the Lord will lead me on the rest of the journey.

Eternal
"We all know that something is eternal. And it ain’t houses and it ain’t names, and it ain’t earth, and it ain’t even the stars . . . everybody knows in their bones that something is eternal, and that something has to do with human beings. All the greatest people ever lived have been telling us that for five thousand years and yet you’d be surprised how people are always losing hold of it. There’s something way down deep that’s eternal about every human being.

Interesting Promises
God didn't promise days without pain, laughter without sorrow, or sun without rain, but He did promise strength for the day, comfort for the tears, and light for the way. If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it.

Lost faith
In his book, "Faith Interrupted," Edward Lax shares the story of his journey of faith. His father was an Episcopal priest and Edward felt the pressure to follow in his father's footsteps. In the book, Edward reflects on some advice his father gave him when he said, "Christianity comes down to only one thing - that is to love one another. The miracles are all window dressing."

Absence of God
In Colum McCann's epic and best selling novel, Let the Great World Spin," Corrigan says, "That' s what I like about God. You get to know him by his occasional absence."
I wonder is it God who is absent or is it we who are absent to where God is present?

Looking & Eating
Simone Weil, a French Jew who died of hunger during the Second World War wrote: "The great trouble in human life is that looking and eating are two different operations. It may be that vice, depravity and crime are nearly always, or even perhaps always, in their essence attempts to eat beauty, to eat what we should only look at."
